Some of you may have seen this important article over at The Gospel Coalition about the decline and relocation of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) by Collin Hansen, who is a graduate of the school. Reformed Theological Seminary has been friends with TEDS for many years. Over the years, a number of our faculty have done their studies there before coming to RTS, and a number of our graduates have gone on to do doctoral work there. We wish TEDS all the best in this new stage of their institutional life. The last twenty years have been tough for accredited graduate theological education…
The Lord's Day Morning February 3, 2008 Philippians 2:9-11 Fighting for Joy, Growing in Humility, Knowing Christ and the Peace that Passes Understanding: A Study of Philippians “The Exaltation of Christ” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Philippians 2. It has been our joy over the last number of weeks working through this letter to pay very close attention to what some theologians and New Testament scholars call “the song of Christ” or the “hymn to Christ” recorded here in Philippians 2:5-11. We have been focusing especially on the section of that song in which Paul sets out the humility and the humiliation of Jesus Christ in verses 5-8. Today we’ll be looking at verses 9-11, in which Paul sets out the exaltation…
Does Grace Grow Best in Winter? Suffering…Sovereignty…and Sanctification Winter Luncheon Series “Him Too?” The Quandary and Questions of Suffering January 31, 2008 Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Friends, I want to welcome you to the fourth and final of our series of luncheons dealing with the issue of suffering. You are the few and the faithful today! You have persevered till the end, and certainly for you there is a crown of gold stored up! Let me remind us a little bit about where we've come from over the course of our weeks together. We wanted to ask four questions to give us some sort of structure and guidance: Why Me? What For? How So? and, Him, Too? “Why me?” so that we could allow the cry of the heart to be lifted up to the Lord just like it so often is in the Bible, and…
Wednesday Evening January 30, 2008 Numbers 27:12-23 Numbers — With God in the Wilderness: “Succession Plan” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III If you have your Bibles, I’d invite you to turn with me to Numbers 27. Last Wednesday night we were in Numbers 26, looking at a long list of the heads of families of the tribes of Israel; and these names were being listed not only for the purposes of selective service, but especially for the purpose of inheritance. And therein lies an irony with the passage we’re reading tonight. In Numbers 26, all the heads of families of the tribes of Israel are being numbered so that the land, which God had promised to Abraham and to his descendents, which the children of Israel were about to enter into, could be apportioned out appropriately to those…

Wednesday Evening January 23, 2008 Numbers 26 With God in the Wilderness The New Generation Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III I would invite you to take your Bibles in hand and turn with me to Numbers 26. This is a long chapter. It is a chapter in which Moses is commanded to do another census. And we were reminded in that census how faithful God had been to His promises to the…
