Some of you may have seen this important article over at The Gospel Coalition about the decline and relocation of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) by Collin Hansen, who is a graduate of the school. Reformed Theological Seminary has been friends with TEDS for many years. Over the years, a number of our faculty have done their studies there before coming to RTS, and a number of our graduates have gone on to do doctoral work there. We wish TEDS all the best in this new stage of their institutional life. The last twenty years have been tough for accredited graduate theological education…
The Lord's Day Morning November 12, 2006 II Timothy 4:1-4 Biblical Priorities for the Life of our Church (2) How in the World does the Church Grow? Biblical Preaching Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to II Timothy 4. A couple of weeks ago we began a new series on biblical priorities for our life as a congregation of Christians; that is, we wanted to look to the Bible to see what the Bible said about how we are to order our lives together — what our priorities ought to be as we live and work together as fellow Christians in this local congregation in obedience to God's word. We started that series off by looking at something of the context in which the church finds itself today. We asked the question “Where in the world is…

Please be seated. If you have your Bibles, I’d invite you to turn with me to Ephesians 6. We are now at the penultimate sermon in this series on the Book of Ephesians. One more to go! Tonight we’re looking at the end of the passage that deals with the armor of God. We’ve been going through that section in Ephesians that has to do with the full armor of God. The last time we were together in this book we began to look at the prayer that was designed to undergird the whole of the armor that God has appointed for believers to wear. Tonight we’re looking specifically at…
The Lord's Day Morning October 29, 2006 Matthew 6:19-21 “Is Your Treasure Showing?” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Matthew 6, and be looking at verses 16-19. This is the passage from which the theme of the stewardship season comes. Our Stewardship Committee has chosen once again to emphasize that stewardship is a matter of the heart. You’ll see why as we work through this passage today, but the battle hymn of the Reformation, which you just heard the choir sing, admirably points us to this in its very final stanza: “Let goods and kindred go; this mortal life also. The body they may kill; God's truth….” …still stands, doesn't it? Because his kingdom is forever. And so Martin Luther is reminding…

The Lord's Day Evening October 15, 2006 Ephesians 6:13-17 “God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (LVIII) The Full Armor of God (2): Spiritually Armed” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III If you have your Bibles, I'd ask you to turn again to Ephesians 6, as we continue to look at this section called “The Armor of God” especially from verses 10 down to verse 18; but really, we’ll use this as our subtitle or theme title for the rest of the book, to the very end of verse 24. Last…
The Lord's Day Morning October 15, 2006 Hebrews 13:17 “What It Means to Be a Member of FPC: The Five Questions of Membership (5)”“Do you submit yourself to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Hebrews 13. The Lord's Day Evening October 8, 2006 Ephesians 6:10-12Our Struggle is Not Against Flesh and Blood Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. We've recently worked through a section that began in Ephesians 5:22 and stretched all the way to Ephesians 6:9, dealing with God's…

Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. You may not appreciate how relevant that catechism question is to our current situation. Some of you may know that in both the Navy and in the Air Force directives have come down to the chaplains just in the last few months indicating…
