Some of you may have seen this important article over at The Gospel Coalition about the decline and relocation of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) by Collin Hansen, who is a graduate of the school. Reformed Theological Seminary has been friends with TEDS for many years. Over the years, a number of our faculty have done their studies there before coming to RTS, and a number of our graduates have gone on to do doctoral work there. We wish TEDS all the best in this new stage of their institutional life. The last twenty years have been tough for accredited graduate theological education…
The Lord's Day Evening September 24, 2006 Ephesians 6:4“God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (LV) God's Household Rules: Marriage and Family (10): The Nurture and Admonition of the Lord” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to the Book of Ephesians again, chapter six, as we continue through this section on household rules. Last week we were looking at Ephesians 6:1-3, a section in which the Apostle Paul gives God's commands to Christian children, and we said that Christian children, in order to live out the gospel in the home, in order to live out their personal embrace of the lordship of Christ, must obey their parents for three reasons…three motivations Paul gives them: Because…
The Lord's Day Morning September 24, 2006 Acts 16:31; Matthew 16:15-16; John 1:29 “What It Means to Be a Member of FPC: The Five Questions of Membership (2)” 2. “Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of sinners; and do you receive and trust Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the gospel?” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III I invite you to turn with me to Acts 16. We’re going to look at four verses by way of elaborating on the biblical truth contained in the second question of membership. Last week we began a five-part series looking at the five questions of membership. We stressed that these questions themselves contain a summarization of important biblical themes, and last week we looked at the first question, which was: 1. Do you acknowledge…
The Lord's Day Evening September 17, 2006 Ephesians 6:1-3 God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (LIV) God's Household Rules: Marriage and Family (9): “Children's Obedience” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn again to Ephesians…now chapter six, but still part of the section that we started back in Ephesians 5:22 One comment is probably going to be useful for you as you consider especially the content of Ephesians 6:5-9, which deals with the slave/master relationship – that this whole section from Ephesians 5:22 to 6:9 pertains to life in the household. It might be tempting to view the issue of husbands and wives, and children and parents as matters of the household, and then to come…
The Lord's Day Morning September 17, 2006 Romans 3:23“Church Membership (1): Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy? Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Romans–first in chapter three, then we're going to go back to chapter two, and then forward to chapter five as we look at three short passages which are really simply texts that…
The Lord's Day Morning September 3, 2006 Ephesians 5:25-27God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (LI) Household Rules: Marriage and Family (6) “Love Your Wife (3)” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Ephesians 5, as we continue to study through this great book of the Apostle Paul, and especially this section in which God gives His household rules for marriage and family. The last two weeks as we've been focusing…
The Lord's Day Evening September 3, 2006 Ephesians 5:28-30God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (LII) Household Rules: Marriage and Family (7) “Love Your Wife (4)” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. We’re continuing our study of Ephesians tonight, and we’ll be doing so throughout the rest of the autumn, God willing. Let me just refresh you as to where we are. This morning we outlined the whole passage. We commented that in addition to the apostle's…

If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Ephesians, chapter five, as we continue to work our way through this great letter of the Apostle Paul to the Ephesian church and to us. We’re in a section that runs from Ephesians 5:22 all the way to Ephesians 6:9, and it's a…
The Lord's Day Morning August 13, 2006 Ephesians 5:22-24 “God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (XLVIII) Household Rules: Marriage and Family (3)”Obey?! Submit? You've got to be kidding! (2) Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Ephesians, chapter five, verse 22, as we return to this most “politically incorrect” of passages in the New Testament. I was thinking to myself about three weeks ago as I saw this passage…
The Lord's Day Morning August 6, 2006 Ephesians 5:22-24“God's New Family: An Exposition of Ephesians (XLVII) Household Rules: Marriage and Family (2)” Obey?! Submit? You've got to be kidding! (1) Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III I invite you to turn with me to Ephesians 5, verse 22. We’re going to look at verses 22-24 today, but let me admit at the outset we're not going to get out of verse 22. We’re going to have to come back and look at verses 22-23-24 next week. This whole…
