I just got an encouraging note from my friend, John Wilson, who is the Clerk of Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, Australia. Due in no small part to John’s influence, I had the joy of preaching the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia last September in Sydney, and I also was able to teach at the Presbyterian Theological College (PTC) in Melbourne while I was there. RTS has strong connections with the Presbyterian Church of Australia, and RTS Jackson New Testament professor Dr. Guy Waters was “down under” last summer teaching at PTC. This year, Dr. Richard Belcher, who is the John D. and Frances M. Gwin Professor of Old Testament and the Academic Dean at RTS Charlotte taught in Australia for PTC and preached in area PCV churches. He and his wife Lu traveled to Australia together.
Here’s a little of John’s note: “THANK YOU for loaning PTC (Melbourne) your Old Testament professor from RTS Charlotte, Dr Richard Belcher. Dr Belcher taught profoundly and with discerning application from the OT book of Judges and then on weekends he preached in our churches SO sweetly from God’s Word with telling application and making deep connections with his audience. He made a lasting impression on the 55 students in his class together with a number of people in our PCV congregations. Richard and Lu are wonderful ambassadors for Reformed Theological Seminary. Another great example of partnership between PTC and RTS.”
Well done, Dr. Belcher! And, thanks John. RTS loves our partnership with our faithful Australian Presbyterian friends.
