Disaster!
If you have your Bibles, I'd like you to turn with me to II Kings 25, because II Kings 25 describes the circumstance that the Psalmist is praying to God about, is crying out to God about. The circumstance is the Babylonian destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, one of the most cataclysmic events in the history of Israel. If every Christian remembers the date of the death of Christ, surely two realities control the mind of the believing Hebrew. First of all, the Exodus was emblazoned upon the heart of every Hebrew believer. It was the great event of deliverance in the Old Testament. Over and over, the Psalms look at the present experience of the Hebrew in light of the Exodus, and we're going to find that happening in Psalm 74 tonight.
