We said that though Abraham was still alive during the time of that chapter, the shift has turned to Isaac and his future. But those last days are in large measure concern with getting Isaac married and establishing him as the heir of the covenant line, Abraham's covenant successor. Please turn with me to Genesis, chapter 3. We’re continuing our study in the book of Genesis, those foundations of the faith that are set forth there. And last week we looked specifically at the account of Adam's fall in Genesis 3, verses 1 through 13, and we saw there in that account several important things about the nature of sin. For one thing we saw that sin in its essence is rebellion. It is lawlessness. It is rejection of and rebellion against God's good law. The order that He has established in the universe for us. Also we saw in the second part of that passage, especially in verses 6 and 7, that sin always carries with it shame. As we've studied Matthew chapter 5-9 together, we have stressed, over and again, that Christ's word, His words of wisdom, His teaching on the reality of the Christian life, is set side by side here with His deeds of power. And so by word and deed, Matthew shows Him to be the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
