In Psalm 56 we find ourselves with David, but not King David, at least not King David in the eyes of Israel–King David in the eyes of God, to be sure, but at this point in his career he is a fugitive. He's a fugitive from Saul, prince of Israel, the anointed king by God through Samuel and yet not acknowledged in the land of Israel. Over the last number of weeks, we have seen John digress from a plan that he has been pursuing in the first two chapters to give, first, a word of encouragement and, then, a word of exhortation.
