If you have your Bibles, I’d invite you to turn with me to Matthew, chapter 23. You will remember that this chapter breaks into three parts. In the first twelve verses, the Lord Jesus diagnoses the spiritual problem of the Scribes and the Pharisees. He says they are guilty of religious hypocrisy. And then in verses 13 through 36 he proceeds to engage in a scathing denunciation, a withering rebuke of their hypocrisy, a hypocrisy which much of Israel has fallen into. Then the chapter concludes in verses 37 through 39. The passage we’re going to study today with the Lord Jesus own grief-stricken groaning over Israel, as He expresses His heart for those who have turned their hearts against Him.
