We’ll be reading from the sixty-third verse to the end of the chapter as we continue to work our way through the gospel together. Luke is showing us the mistreatment that Jesus endured during the night in anticipation of His trial before the Sanhedrin in the very early morning hours. And he's showing us this for several reasons. First of all, he wants Christians to know what their Savior underwent for them, but he also wants us to know the reason why the council wanted to put Him to death and what the council wanted to entrap Him in. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Psalm 102. We return today to the Fourth Book of the Psalms. It has been almost a month, but we're back again. But we're in a very different Psalm from the Psalm that we last studied. We were last together in Psalm 101. The Psalms immediately prior to that Psalm had dealt repeatedly with worship. This, however, is a Psalm that deals with affliction. This Psalm was traditionally classed among the penitential Psalms, that collection of Psalms in which the psalmist confesses sins, repents of his sin and seeks God's forgiving mercy, but this is a mislabeling of this Psalm.
