The Messiah Is Born
The Lord's Day Morning January 25, 2009 Luke 2:1-7 “The Messiah Is Born” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Luke 2. We’ll be looking at verses 1-7 as we continue our way through Luke's great Gospel. He's speaking to his friend — perhaps someone that he is introducing the gospel to, perhaps a young Christian, we don't know exactly — but he's Theophilus, as you will remember from the first four verses of the book. And in effect, especially in these first two chapters, he's saying, ‘What a time we live in, Theophilus. In our own time, ancient prophecies are being fulfilled. They've come to pass, and now even the greatest empire on earth has become subservient to the ends of God.’ And two things…
