Some of you may have seen this important article over at The Gospel Coalition about the decline and relocation of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) by Collin Hansen, who is a graduate of the school. Reformed Theological Seminary has been friends with TEDS for many years. Over the years, a number of our faculty have done their studies there before coming to RTS, and a number of our graduates have gone on to do doctoral work there. We wish TEDS all the best in this new stage of their institutional life. The last twenty years have been tough for accredited graduate theological education…
The Lord's Day Morning September 16, 2007 Philippians 2:1-3 “Complete My Joy, With Humility” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Let me invite you to turn with me to Philippians, chapter two. We’ll be looking at verses 1, 2, and 3 today, especially concentrating on verse 3. We've been working through this letter for a number of weeks now…a number of months now. The center section of the letter begins in verse 27. Throughout this section the Apostle Paul is exhorting us to live the Christian life. He has especially impressed upon us the fact that we cannot experience the joy that God intends us to enjoy in the congregation of His people unless we are pursuing actively the living of the Christian life. We have said on a number of occasions now that the key to experiencing that…

This is Ligon Duncan, and this is “Hymns of the Faith.” This is a new program of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi. It is a gift to you from our elders and congregation, and every Sunday morning we’ll be here on 1180, WJNT, to talk with you about the devotional treasures of the ages that have been bequeathed to us in the hymnal. All around us we are seeing young people today become…
The Lord's Day Morning September 9, 2007 Philippians 2:1-2 “Complete My Joy, With Unity” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Philippians, chapter two. We have been working our way through this great letter of the Apostle Paul, and we have said for the last few weeks as we've been looking at Philippians 1:27 and following, that Philippians 1:27 inaugurates the central section of this letter. It opens with a message in which the Apostle Paul urges us to live life in a manner worthy of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. And throughout the center section of this letter, Paul exhorts us to do just that, giving us a series of directions…a series of imperatives, a series of exhortations in which he urges us to live the…
The Lord’s Day Evening Numbers 19:1-22 “The Red Heifer” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Please be seated. If you have your Bibles before you, turn to Numbers 19. Let me invite you to turn to the New Testament to I Corinthians 10, and let me just remind you of a couple of things. First of all, the song that we have just sung is really the perfect song for studying Numbers 19, because it’s a chapter that is really, when you look at it closely, all about the blood of Jesus. Ruling Elder…
The Lord's Day Morning September 2, 2007 Philippians 2:1-2 “Complete My Joy” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III If you have your Bibles, I'd invite you to turn with me to Philippians, chapter two. Now, it's only taken you seventeen weeks to hear me say those words–Philippians 2! The last time we were together we were in verses 29 and 30, and we were looking at this astounding, this stunning statement that the Apostle Paul has made about the gift of faith and the gift of suffering. [The…
The Lord’s Day Evening Numbers 18:1-32 “Levites’ Duties and Priestly Portion” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Amen. Please be seated. If you have your Bibles, I’d invite you to turn with me to Numbers, chapter 18. For those of you who haven’t been with us on Wednesday nights working through this great book, we have called this series “With God in the Wilderness,” and we’ve chosen that title because the name of this book in the Hebrew Bible is “In the Wilderness” —…
Wednesday Evening August 29, 2007 Numbers 17:1-13 “Aaron’s Rod Blossoming” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III If you have your Bibles, I would invite you to turn with me to Numbers 17, as we continue to make our way through this book together. I’ve been able to say this over and over the last few weeks because of the material that we’ve been in, but all the way from chapter 11 to chapter 16 has been a story of Israel grumbling and complaining and murmuring and rebelling against Moses…
The Lord's Day Morning August 26, 2007 Philippians 1:29-30 (2) “The Gift of Suffering for Christ's Sake” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Now we're studying today from Philippians 1:29, the Apostle Paul's words that “it has been granted to us not only to believe, but also to suffer”. Let me just tell you ahead of time, we will only scratch the surface of this vitally important subject. I hope the message today is something of an hors d’oeuvre, something that will whet your…
Wednesday Evening August 22, 2007 Numbers 16:1-50 “Korah’s Rebellion” Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III Here we see the some of the Levites coming to Moses and basically saying, ‘We want to be priests. We’re Levites, but we want to be priests.’ And they challenge Moses’ and Aaron’s leadership, and they defame them. You be on the lookout for how they do this, both those things — they challenge the leadership and they defame Moses and Aaron. Let’s hear God’s word.…
